This new center, located in Biolake (Wuhan National Bioindustry Base), represents an expansion of Pfizer's existing R&D facility in Shanghai and will serve as a state-of-the-art platform for global drug development and strategic biomedical alliances, supporting the company's commitment to achieving a healthier China and a healthier world.
Among those who attended this signing ceremony were Guo Shenglian, the Vice Governor of Hubei Province; Allan Gabor, Regional President of Pfizer North Asia; officials from Hubei Provincial Government and Wuhan Municipal Government; and high-level representatives from Pfizer Global R&D organization.

"Pfizer is committed to working closely with China's healthcare community to strengthen the biomedical infrastructure throughout China," said Allan Gabor, Regional President for North Asia. "We're therefore excited to be establishing for the first time a significant R&D presence in Central/Western region. With plans to be a state-of-the-art facility, the Wuhan center will be an integral part of Pfizer's global R&D operations while being closely aligned with the Chinese government¡¯s strategy on biopharmaceutical industry development in the region."

"Pfizer is setting up this R&D center in Wuhan primarily because of the city¡¯s solid research foundation and rich talent pool," continued Lingshi Tan, Vice President of Pfizer Global Research & Development, General Manager of Pfizer (China) Research & Development Co., Ltd. "The establishment of Pfizer R&D operations in Wuhan will allow us to further expand our efforts to work alongside Chinese partners to promote biomedical innovation and develop the relevant skills and talents in local communities in central China."

Pfizer's R&D operations in Wuhan will be initially engaged in supporting various global clinical drug development programs, including Phase I-IV clinical trials. Once the facility is built, Pfizer expects the number of employees to grow to 200 within 3 years. Pfizer R&D in Wuhan will also liaise with local research institutes and universities utilizing the rich resources of local talent and existing industry capabilities to develop research collaborations on drug innovation and development. In the mean time, Shanghai will remain the operations hub of Pfizer's R&D effort in China.

Mr. Chuantie Liu, Secretary General of the Administrative Committee of the Wuhan East Lake Hi-tech Development Zone remarked, "Pfizer will be the first premier pharmaceutical company to reside in Biolake. Pfizer R&D in Wuhan will serve as a catalyst for the biopharmaceutical industry's development in Wuhan and the surrounding Midwest region of China. East Lake Hi-tech Development Zone will follow the principles of 'mutual benefit, mutual complementarity and common development' to provide better service for Pfizer's move-in and create a bright future together.
