The China Health Communications Awards (Dyslipidemia 2007) project was launched in August 2007. Mr. BAI Yansong, the famous CCTV presenter, was selected to be the Health Education Communications Ambassador of the year, in order to support the promotion of public awareness of dyslipidemia. From August 2007 to October 2008, the program built up an effective bridge between medical professionals, the media, and patients, which gave universal access to information about avoiding and treating dyslipidemia. At the same time, Pfizer cooperated with the MOH on a series of media events, which covered 8 major cities in China including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, and involved over 90 major media outlets in China. Through this project, the number of Dyslipidemia news items in the past 13 months was six times more than it was over the same period in 2006. With assistance from KOLs, Pfizer sponsored the publication of the" Media Handbook of Dyslipidemia, Myoctardial & Cerebral Thrombosis Protection", and a patient education publication entitled "100 Stories by Chinese Hyperlipidemia Patients". These publications will be sent to patients by the MOH.
The' China Health Communications Awards' was first launched in 2005. Every year, a different chronic disease, which may pose danger to public health, is selected as the topic of the program. The objectives of the program are to raise awareness of chronic diseases and communicate the right health education to the public. Pfizer was the first sponsor for this program in 2005. For the 2007 awards, Pfizer is again honored to be the sole sponsor of the program.
